Defending MotoGP champion Marc Marquez will be forced to miss this weekend’s Czech Grand Prix at Brno due to a second surgery to replace the metal plate holding together the broken bone in his right arm. The surgery was done late on Monday after it was found that the plate was damaged by the stress put on it.
Marquez broke the humerus bone in his right arm in a crash in the late stages of the season opening Spanish GP in Jerez on July 19. He attempted to make a comeback at the Andalucia GP the very next week after undergoing surgery and passing the medical inspection.
However, the Spaniard was off the pace and was unable to complete the qualifying session, which forced him to miss the race. It was believed that the two week rest in between the Andalucia GP and the Czech GP would be sufficient for him to make a comeback.
German rider Stefan Bradl has been drafted by Honda Racing Corporation to replace Marquez and partner Alex Marquez for the Czech GP.
The unexpected news about the surgery to replace the plate has made the likelihood of a seventh premier class title for the Repsol Honda rider extremely unlikely. Petronas Yamaha SRT’s Fabio Quartararo has won both rounds held so far and is looking like the championship favourite based on his current riding form.
Another win in Brno for Quartararo will make him the odds on favourite for this year’s premier class MotoGP title.
